About the Ophthalmic Imaging Association

The Ophthalmic Imaging Association (OIA) is a professional organisation dedicated to supporting, developing and connecting everyone working in ophthalmic imaging. All our committee members are volunteers and our membership is currently free to join.

We bring together a diverse community of ophthalmic imagers, photographers, clinicians, researchers, educators, scientists and industry professionals who share a passion for imaging and its vital role in modern eye care.

Our aim is to promote excellence, education, collaboration and innovation across ophthalmic imaging. We support professionals at every stage of their career, from those who are new to ophthalmic imaging through to experienced practitioners, educators and leaders within the field.

Our annual OIA Conference brings together professionals from across the UK and internationally for two days of education, research, networking and practical learning. The programme combines expert presentations with opportunities to hear about new developments in ophthalmic imaging, share clinical experience and take part in hands-on workshops delivered by industry experts.

We also encourage and support our members to share their own knowledge and experience. Our programme welcomes contributions ranging from clinical audits and research to innovative projects, training ideas and insights into everyday ophthalmic imaging practice.

Supporting the Profession

We are committed to raising the profile of ophthalmic imaging and supporting the professional development of those working within the field.

The OIA works alongside professional and industry partners to promote good practice, encourage education and collaboration, and help ensure that ophthalmic imaging continues to evolve alongside advances in technology and clinical care.

We also support awareness of professional recognition and development opportunities, including the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) Accredited Register for Ophthalmic and Vision Science.

A Community for Ophthalmic Imagers

The OIA is more than a professional organisation — it is a community.

We believe that some of the most valuable learning comes from sharing experiences with colleagues: discovering how another department approaches a challenge, learning a new imaging technique, discussing the latest technology, or simply meeting others who understand the unique role of an ophthalmic imager.

Whether you are new to ophthalmic imaging, developing your career, an experienced practitioner, working in research or education, or involved in the industry, we welcome you to be part of the OIA community.

Our vision

To be a leading professional community for ophthalmic imaging, supporting excellence in practice, lifelong learning, innovation and collaboration for the benefit of patients and the wider eye-care community.
